4th of July in Seattle

June 30, 2011 in Holidays

Everywhere in the Seattle area you can find celebrations for biggest national holiday… Happy Birthday America! Ranging from huge extravagant booming displays of fireworks to smaller parades and festivals on the fourth of July, Seattle sizzles.

Family 4th at Lake Union

The largest event every year is the Family Fourth fireworks display at Gasworks on Lake Union with the amazing Seattle backdrop for people to enjoy not only their country’s patriotism but also their city’s unity and pride.

Last year, just days before the fourth, the city’s papers, TV stations and radio stations were wildly talking about the possibility of the Lake Union fireworks display being cancelled due to lack of funding.   For two days thousands of people were flustered trying to make new plans for the holiday as the audience for this event ranges from not only most of the people in Seattle itself but also people coming from cities around Seattle all the way from Bellingham down to past Tacoma.  The city came together with the power of community in the face of a little challenge and with donations and fundraising efforts the city of Seattle had raised enough funds for the show to go on!

This year the fundraising goal was reached much in advance, and the excited city is on it’s way to making plans for the big event.   Other activities at the event include the Kid’s Playfield, live music, food booths and beer gardens. Fireworks begin at 10pm!

Bellevue Family 4th

Located at Bellevue Downtown Park, the Eastside’s largest festival provides food booths, children’s activities, a Community Spotlight Pavillion, and a performance by the Bellevue Philharmonic before the fireworks display starting at 10.
